Warning about Simmer Eats: Charged for skipped boxes!

advice

I wanted to share a warning about my experience with Simmer Eats regarding automated charges, website glitches, and how their support handles technical issues.

I originally gave Simmer a go to help juggle my meal routine. The first couple of weeks were okay overall, although I was already pretty skeptical about their nutritional info. Some of the meals definitely didn't seem to have as much protein as the packaging claimed, but I stuck with it for convenience.

Things went wrong when I needed to skip deliveries because I was away. They don't actually have an app, just a notoriously bad mobile website. I went on the site well before the cut-off deadlines, skipped the weeks I needed, and saw the dates clearly crossed off on my screen. I had actually skipped two previous boxes on the site and never received confirmation emails for those either, so I assumed that was just how their system worked and didn't think anything of it since those deliveries were successfully paused.

Despite the date showing as skipped on my account, my card was charged out of nowhere for the latest box. I emailed support straight away to explain that the site glitched, nobody would be around to collect the food, and I needed a refund.

Their support agent claimed there was no record of the skip on their end and asked me to send a copy of my "skip confirmation email" as proof. The obvious issue here is that if their website glitched and failed to register the skip in the first place, no automated email was ever generated. Expecting me to produce an email that their own bug prevented from sending—especially when previous skips went through without emails—is completely ridiculous.

When I held my ground, support escalated it to a supervisor and came back with a "win-win" solution. They refused a full refund under their "food waste policy," but said I could donate the food to a homeless shelter, and they would refund 50% as a "goodwill gesture." Expecting a customer to absorb a 50% financial loss for a technical bug on their website—and framing it as a charitable act—is beyond belief.

If you use them, be very careful. Never trust their website UI, and take their protein macros with a grain of salt if you strictly track your nutrition. There is no live chat or phone support, so if their site glitches and they refuse to budge over email, save your energy and take your email thread straight to your bank for a chargeback.

From looking into this further, they appear to be notorious for charging people after they skip boxes or even after canceling their accounts altogether. Make sure you put a direct merchant block on your card or bank account and take screenshots of every single confirmation page on their site, because their customer service will never agree to cooperate or admit fault.
