Confidence issue or skill issue?
So I got laid off last week from my job as a union carpenter and now I’m not sure if I need another job or what. Before anyone says anything I know that that’s how the union works but that’s not my issue. Back in January I moved in with my girlfriend who lived 2 hours from my hometown and when I was looking for a job I got so in my head about it that i didn’t call the union hall for like a month.
Fast forward to today and I’m doing the same thing because I have little confidence in my own skill. I did interior systems at my job in my hometown for about 3 years and even after that I still feel like I only did things right like 60-70% of the time. I’ve been a journeyman for right at a year now but I dont really feel like it. There’s things I’ve done at my job a million times and yet i have multiple instances where it’s like everything I’ve done has just left my brain. What makes it worse is that I’m not the best about not getting in my head when I get bitched at so if I do I’ll just think about it all day which makes my focus even worse.
I think the underlying cause is possibly undiagnosed adhd because my brain never shuts off but I’m not sure because I’ve never been tested. With all that being said the advice I’m looking for is either A) should I get a new job at a different union or in a completely different field and start over even though I make good money and have benefits. Or B) suck it up, call the union hall for a job and just keep at it even if I keep bouncing around.
TL;DR - Not sure if I have a confidence issue because I get in my head all the time or a skill issue because I keep screwing things up I’ve done a million times at my job. Or both.
