Disney Had the Perfect Sequel Trilogy Story Right in Front of Them

Mix of Series

After re-reading Vector Prime, I was thinking back to what Kathlyn Kennedy said about having no source material to pull from. I started then thinking about how the DCU and MCU base their stories in the existing comic universes. Long story short I came to the conclusion that Sequel Trilogy should've been based on the Yuuzahn Vong invasion. I don't think a 1-1 retelling of the events would be ideal since Disney wanted to make their own cannon, but I think it could've lead to some great stories. All of the Characters of the Sequel Trilogy would fit like a glove for the war. Finn, an ex-imperial defector who can help coordinate the war. Poe Dameron, the new leader of the Rough Squadron. Rey, Ben Solo's padawan. Ben Solo, Ben could've taken the place of Jacen Solo and become a fallen war hero. This could've also set up another trilogy based of Legacy where the Student now has to kill the master mirroring Revenge of the Sith. This would've also given the OT characters satisfying conclusions to their stories. It's never sat right with me that we never got the see Luke reestablish the Jedi. The EU gave us multiple stories about how Luke set up his order and searched for students and his trials and tribulations building the New Jedi Order. It's literally poetry to me at least. To me in cannon it doesn't make sense how the empire came back and took over the entire galaxy, let alone built another planet size death star in roughly 30 years. The Battle of Jakku also doesn't make sense. The Empire had 25,000 ISD's, tor their to be roughly 1,000 left and participating during the battle makes no sense. I also think rehashing the plot of the Original Trilogy was a mistake. Disney has made a lot of mistakes during their handling of Star Wars, but the fumble of the Sequel Trilogy set us up for the current state of Star Wars.
