Looking for B-Unit 3 service or firmware documentation (USB VID 1188:9550)

Hi everyone — I’m trying to preserve a personally owned, decommissioned Bloomberg B-Unit 3. It came to me from my brother, who worked at Citadel from 2014 to 2019.

The device identifies over USB as Bloomberg VID 1188 / PID 9550 (hardware revision 0099). I have confirmed that Bloomberg’s "blptci" library recognizes it as device type 2 and that its normal USB HID/N3 transport responds, but I have not found a B-Unit-3-specific service client, updater, or documented firmware-read procedure in public Terminal packages.

My goal is only to make a verified backup of the original firmware and understand whether the device can ever be safely restored or used as a standalone personal project. I’m not trying to access Bloomberg Terminal, accounts, services, customer data, credentials, biometric data, or bypass any security controls.

If anyone remembers working with these devices, I would be grateful for any lawful, non-confidential pointers, such as:

\- the name/version of a B-Unit 3 manufacturing, diagnostic, repair, or firmware utility;

\- documentation for the USB protocol or bootloader;

\- a USB capture from an official diagnostic or update session;

\- confirmation whether firmware readback was possible at all;

\- an introduction to a former hardware, firmware, manufacturing, or repair engineer who might remember it.

Thank you!
