I'm in a relationship but I feel very alone.

I remember when Trump gave his first inaugural speech, the newspapers reported that almost nobody showed up, and then backed their claim up with a picture of no people in the audience. But the picture was really just taken before people showed up, so it was a lie.

And so I told my significant other about this because I had a picture of the audience after they showed up. …when she saw it, she pointed to this tiny little area in the back corner that wasn't packed with people and was like “no, see, that article wasn't lying”.

…and inside myself, I was like, “okay, you're letting your political bias affect what you can easily see with your own eyes”. …”Your head is in the sand at this point”.

We were in our thirties and I am male and she is female.

Anyway, I have a new girlfriend now, and we've been together for 10 years, and unfortunately she is now doing basically the same thing, only it's not because of political bias, rather, it just seems to be some sort of ‘against me’ bias.

What is happening if. Is that when I express any kind of critical opinion, no matter how grounded or reasonable, she takes the side of whoever or whatever I am critiquing.

This just happened again this morning:

There was a TikTok video I saw of an autistic girl (I'm diagnosed autistic btw), starting out her video by saying “I'm autistic and excitement and anxiety feel the same to me”. …then she proceeded to work herself up until she self induced a brief manic episode by doing something called “stimming”, then called this emotional regulation and declared it a good thing.

So I explained this to my girlfriend and she asked to see the video. She watched it and rather than seeing the video through my eyes, she looked up the word “stimming” and told me that I don't understand what stimming is and that I'm not really autistic because of this.

I begin to push back on her about this and repeat what the girl says in the video introduction (that she's autistic and excitement and anxiety feel the same to her) and my girlfriend tells me she never said it.

So I showed her the video again… My girlfriend still claims the girl never said it.

But she says it verbatim as the introduction of the video.

This just makes me feel so incredibly alone. It just seems that simply because I have a criticism, actual reality is denied to me.

I don't need my girlfriend to agree with me about everything, that's not what I'm asking for. I don't really know how to articulate what I'm asking for. I just know that what happened this morning makes me feel completely alone.

I'm 43M and she's 38F.

TL;DR: my girlfriend seems to disagree with me because she emotionally doesn't want to see things through my eyes.
