BeepingNoobs Day: 1 Metal Detecting
Hey, I’m the beepingNoob, my metal detector beeps but I’m in no way sure what on earth is going on. so I’m here to document my finds.
Here‘s today’s finds from the beach:
This first one took around two hours to dig out of the ground (I never claimed to be good at this):
it wasn’t particularly deep, maybe 10cm under the sand, but had lots of really big rocks all around it so I couldn’t get it out. My detector was really precise on the spot but kept jumping from 50-80. I almost gave up on several occasions but slowly dug around it.
After i finally got it out, it looked like a lump of rubbish. Which it probably is but I was too emotionally invested at this point For my first find.
Slowly I knocked off this black stuff?
Seems to be an old screw. has a flat top which is magnetic. Since being out in the open it’s gone rusty.
I think I spent an hour or two, digging out of the ground a useless screw. But I can’t help but feel pretty proud of my real first find.
honestly, I felt really tired after this. I got several more large beeps walking back across the beach to go home, but at this point I felt physically defeated and these signalled they were deep, hopefully my endurance improves!
Before I left I had a relatively low signal of 26 on my detector and importantly it wasn’t deep in the ground! I decided I could go for one more mystery before I left. After digging the spot I sifted through the sand and a small metal item was found. Ok this was small but, way way easier to recover! I have no idea what it is however.
Anyway, it was a lot of fun. importantly I didn't find any bottle caps on my first trip out metal detecting. Though I’m sure I have many of those to come. I went during low tide and walked quite a way out. I think I’ll go back soon to find some bottle caps.
