DEX vs CEX: Why use a cross-chain DEX?

Most people who want to swap something like native BTC for native ETH still think of using a centralized exchange: deposit BTC, make the trade, then withdraw ETH back to their wallet.

But cross-chain DEXs provide another option.

We put together an article explaining:

  • The differences between DEXs and CEXs
  • How traditional DEXs differ from cross-chain DEXs
  • How native cross-chain swaps like BTC → ETH work
  • Self-custody and wallet-to-wallet trading
  • KYC/AML and how they relate to centralized exchanges
  • How depouch connects to decentralized liquidity infrastructure such as THORChain, NEAR Intents, and Maya Protocol

With depouch, there's no traditional exchange account to fund and no KYC onboarding process before using the swap interface. You initiate the swap from your own wallet, and the resulting cryptocurrency are delivered to the destination wallet.
