This is a bit too much now.
I am (openly) atheist ex-hindu devoid of any spirituality whatsoever in a very religious family. However, my parents, esp. my mother overtly and covertly expect me to still partake in rituals, prayers etc.
I don't even disrespect their beliefs, mind my own (lack of) religious beliefs and do not go around screaming about how amazing atheist is or the reasons to/arguments to leave religion. But somehow, I'm always expected to respect and comply with their spirituality, while my personal beliefs are disregarded - it isn't ok at all.
Plus, she thinks of me as some sort of rebel girl who is an atheist out of sheer rebelliousness which is weird because I still abide by the "sanskars" ("values") she's imparted - I don't wear the so-called "immodest clothes" (I usually become rather uncomfortable when some parts of my skin are revealed above my knees, even deep neck causes discomfort and consciousness - a topic for another day really), no drinks or smoking (personal health reasons), vegetarian etc. It's just so funny sometimes lol.
We have a fine relationship outside that aspect but once I get my financial independence in a few years' time, I'm out of here.
PS: Don't insult her or any of my family members please.
