People with long hair : How did you learn to style it?

Question

My hair is fine, somewhat straight, dyed and they tend to frizz. I cut face framing layers with bangs because I wanted to start styling my hair differently. The pin straight look was always the go-to hairstyle for me and I wanted to try something else for once.

When they style it at the salon, I love it. But when I try to style it myself, I always fail. Heatless waves, rollers, brush, nothing works. They either fall flat or they're all over the place.

I'm obviously a person with minimal experience with hairstyling. How did you guys learn to style your long hair? Any tips?
