Recall 21D Update

My local dealer is finally able to schedule me for my 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Willys, but they said something that threw me off. Rather than immediately inspecting or replacing the part, they will do a software update. If the update fails, they will then replace the part.

How does this work? If its a physical component recall, how would a software update fix this?

Has anyone else had this work done? Thanks!
