Are Easy Champions Kept Intentionally Stronger?
First off, I might be completely wrong here, but does anyone else feel like easier champions are often just stronger?
I was looking at win rates and pick rates and it feels kinda weird. Some champions that are pretty easy to play have both a high pick rate and a high win rate.
Then you have some really high-skill champions that are much harder to play, need a lot of practice and mechanics, but are still statistically weaker.
I get that a difficult champion shouldn't automatically have a higher win rate. Obviously if most people can't play the champion properly, the average win rate will be lower.
But at the same time, shouldn't a champion that takes 100 games to learn have some kind of advantage over a champion that you can basically understand after 5 games?
Otherwise it feels like you're sometimes getting punished for playing a harder champion.
Maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way, but I've noticed this quite a lot.
Do you guys think developers intentionally keep easier champions stronger, or is this just how the stats naturally end up ?
I will give you some statistics based on U.GG for Emerald+ in order to prove I am not BS'ing around. I won't include statistics in Grandmaster and Challenger, simply because these two ranks cover small amount of playerbase.
Top lane:
Mordekaiser was 53% winrate with 8% pickrate last patch
Malphite and Garen - 51% winrate , 6.5% pickrate
Olaf - 51% winrate, 3% pickrate
Ornn - 51.5% winrate with 3.5% pickrate
Shen - 51% winrate, 4% pickrate - This is hilarious for me
Mid Lane:
Xerath and Vladimir with 51.5% winrate and both with 4.5% pickrate ( I can be debated about Xerath difficulty, sure)
Twisted Fate - 51.5% winrate , 5.3% pickrate. The guy who is missing for 5 seconds and appears on your lane. Will do the same every 90 seconds in early - mid game
Fizz - 51% winrate, 6% pickrate
Jungle:
Nasus - 52% winrate, 3% pickrate
Wukong and Briar 51.5% winrate, 5% pickrate
I won't include Bot and Support for various reasons
