Need advice about telling my doctor thank you

General Question/Discussion

I have a good bit of medical trauma, in large part due to my undiagnosed adhd making communication in short bursts very difficult. I always felt so rushed and anxious that I could never really get my point across and I always left any office feeling unheard and dismissed. I went decades without consistent care because of this.

My gynecologist saved me, friends. She’s trauma informed, brilliant, gentle, but never maternal. She’s perfect for me. She has never once made me feel rushed or annoying or untrustworthy or like a pest. Just by doing her job the way she does it, and without ever knowing it, she helped me heal a ton of shit that I’d been stuck on in therapy. Years later I now have a team of doctors who are similar to her because I have learned to communicate more effectively and I know now that I’m not actually annoying. I just needed patience.

The practice, however, is having problems negotiating with my shitty health insurance, so it looks likely that my next appointment with her may have to be my last.

So here’s the question:

I want to tell her all of this. I want her to hear that she is making a huge difference in lives without even knowing it. It matters so much and I want to tell her that she made my entire life better. But she’s very busy, and honestly the best time for chitchat would be …

During the actual exam.

Is that totally inappropriate? I’m sure I’ll get a bit emotional, but I also want to respect her time as much as possible so before I talk myself out of it because I don’t know what’s the most socially acceptable answer, what do you all think?
