Looking for Wednesday Bronx Zoo tickets

I know you have to reserve tickets online but I was unaware that today was free admission Wednesday. Has anyone ever tried getting tickets at the door? I read another post that someone tried and was able to get it. Hoping to get more reassurance from NYCers. Thank you.
