Hi everyone!
I know the “how do I get black box dye out of my hair” question has probably been asked a million times here 😅 But I figured I'd ask anyway.

I want to eventually get my box-dyed black hair light enough to dye it a really vibrant blue, like the picture. I know this is going to be a process, and I'm completely fine with taking my time and doing it gradually. I'm even totally fine with rocking patchy orange hair for a while if that's what it takes lol.

Soo, a bit of hair history: I've been dyeing my hair black for around 15 years, mostly using whatever cheap box dye I could find at the grocery store. I've always been too scared to try anything else because I've had so many people telling me my hair would basically die and fall out if I tried bleaching it after using black box dye 😬 But I've really been wanting to try something different for a while now and I regret not trying sooner. My natural hair is light brown, mostly straight with a slight wave.

It would be suuuuper helpful if someone was willing to help me with a step-by-step plan. Should I start with a color remover? Or just bleach it right away? Developer strength? How long do I wait between bleach sessions? How light do I realistically need to get before applying a bright blue? I've watched a few youtube videos on bleaching so I know some of the basics, like starting with the lengths and being careful with the roots.

I'm not looking for a quick fix and I'm happy to take months if necessary. I just want to figure out the most realistic way to get there. Any advice is very welcome!

Going from 15 years of black box dye to vibrant blue?
