The Last Beautiful Lie
You came like a tornado
crashing through the door
barefoot and bleeding
still demanding more
You tasted of last night
moonshine and rain
There were bats in the ceiling
dust on the floor
old ghosts in the hallway
who remembered us before
We made our own hell
and slept peacefully there
You wore your sadness
like perfume at night
I breathed you in slowly
hoping it was right
Your lips tasted sweet
like trouble I knew
You touched my face
with pale, cold hands
kissed me slow
then told me to go
But love is a bastard
It never obeys
Now the roses are dead
the bedroom is bare
your spirit still lingers
like smoke in the air
So kiss me once more
before you depart
Lie to me gently
then tear out my heart
I'll believe the last beautiful lie
if it comes from you
