What does my LinkedIn profile actually look like to other people?
I recently started paying more attention to how my LinkedIn profile looks, and I realized that I’ve mostly been judging it from my own account.
That probably isn’t the best way to do it.
When I’m logged into LinkedIn, I can see all the editing buttons, private information, connection details, and other things that a normal visitor obviously won’t see. So I’m wondering if there’s a simple way to look at my profile from someone else’s perspective.
I’m mainly trying to answer a few questions.
If someone who isn’t connected to me searches for my name and opens my profile, what exactly do they see?
Is my headline displayed the same way? Can they see my About section? What about my Featured section, work experience, education, profile photo, and other details?
I’d also like to know whether the profile looks different depending on whether the visitor is one of my connections, someone outside my network, or someone who isn’t logged into LinkedIn at all.
I remember LinkedIn having different profile-viewing and privacy options, but I’m not sure if there is currently a proper “view as someone else” feature.
I don’t want to make changes to my profile and then assume everything looks good just because it looks good when I’m logged in.
For those who manage their LinkedIn profiles regularly, how do you check this?
Do you use a specific LinkedIn feature, open your profile in an incognito/private browser, or use another account to see what visitors see?
Also, is there anything important that people commonly forget to check when reviewing their profile from a visitor’s perspective?
I’d especially like to hear from people who have checked this recently, since LinkedIn seems to move or change these settings pretty often.
