CMV: People who don't know how to answer 'tricky' questions aren't emotionally intelligent to be in a relationship.
Inspired by a recent (possible shitpost) about a guy saying his gf asked if he thought her identical twin sister was hot.
Other versions of this are: 'would you still love me if I was a worm' etc.
People will defend and say 'some people are more literal than others! Possibly, but it only goes poorly if they have zero critical thinking or assume the other side lacks intelligence.
Example:
"Do you think my identical twin sister is hot?"
If you assume your gf asking this is not mentally deficient... you can easily deduce that she knows that physically, you are obviously attracted to her sister. SO... what does she mean by hot, and how is this relevant to the relationship? If you can even get this far, you know the question isn't dumb. It is a comparison bid for attention and to help her feel more secure in the relationship.
Why would you be with her instead of her twin sister? If your answer would be "your sister is mean/your sister didn't think I was attractive" or something else simple and shallow... it's not a dumb question, you aren't emotionally intelligent enough to answer and the question is working correctly. It's unveiling your lack of true thought or feeling towards what makes your gf special.
If you're thinking "why doesn't she just ask me what makes her more special than her sister" than it doesn't address her actually concerns of you being attracted to her sister equally to her, so it's insincere at best.
-----
Theorectical or comparative questions are moments you should be able to make your bond more secure and gives you a chance to remind your partner why you picked THEM. If it makes you anxious, you don't have a good answer, or it makes you upset, these are all clear signs you are not emotionally intelligent enough and the question is working and it proves that your partner is just a space filler and not actually special to you.
