Remote COC/BR positions
After a couple of years in this industry, I've realized where I can provide the most value: Builder's Risk/Course of Construction, Workers' Compensation, and commercial insurance for construction-related businesses.
Before getting into insurance, I spent nearly 15 years working on federal military construction contracts, including more than five years focused on government compliance, quality assurance, and health and safety. Earlier in my career, I also worked in a Workers' Compensation office on both the plaintiff and insurance carrier sides.
The first time I helped a customer with a Course of Construction policy for a major home renovation, it felt like coming home. Discussing material risk, construction phases, change orders, project valuations, and contractor exposures came naturally. Instead of feeling like a sales call, it became a conversation about educating the customer, planning for risks, and helping protect their investment. We completed the policy on the first call, and once the renovation was finished, it turned into a new Home, Auto, and Umbrella account. I've been chasing that feeling ever since.
I'd love to specialize in this niche, whether that's as a Commercial Producer, Construction Practice Specialist, Builder's Risk specialist, or even on the underwriting side. My biggest constraint is that I need a fully remote position for the time being due to some personal circumstances.
Has anyone seen companies that hire remote specialists in these areas? Are there particular brokers, wholesalers, MGAs, carriers, or agencies that focus on construction risks and support fully remote employees? Also curious if there are certain states where these opportunities are more common.
I'd appreciate any advice from those already working in this space.
