I am not an old hand at burr changes. The idea of doing this was intimidating to me (I never took mine off of my df64 because of all the naysaying about alignment issues with that machine). Needless to say that though I wanted to experiment (I'm an experimentalist by trade), I kept with the core burrs for 3+ weeks, had lovely cups, and was dreading the process of the change.

I swapped burrs last weekend, pictures of the work above, and there was so little retention, so little fiddling to get the job done, and everything was super easy, including re-setting the zero point. Running \~3kg through my SSPs to get them closer to seasoned was a bit of a PITA (I've been saving unloved beans for a hot minute), but at least it was quiet and the new SSP LS burrs are wonderful and are great for both espresso and pourover. I'm having fun, love this set up, and have never encountered a less intimidating aspect of high end espresso equipment. A tip of my hat to the Zerno developers for that.

I did have to look around a bit to figure out that the "B" burr was intended for the main auger mount on the Z2 (the one that rotates), and the "T" labeled burr was for the stationary mount nearest to the dial, but also found that in many people's opinions that it mattered not. I may be wrong here, and please correct me if I am. All the nonsense at the top of google searches was incorrect, because the internet is full of trash information.

In short, the Zerno Z2 is a joy. A quiet, lovely, joy that makes my cups of coffee better. My initial take was that it was "A thing of functional beauty". That still stands for my one month in review, as you can see from my litany of descriptive adjectives. I'm really happy with this grinder, and I oft suffer from buyer's remorse. I'll likely be getting ULF ones for pourover, as swapping is seriously something I could do a couple times a day without frustration.

Zerno Z2, burr changes, and a month of enjoyment.
