It's not super common to use 180gr for 308win, I personally doing it for a few reasons:

So, my Savage impulse likes heavier bullets, up to 190 grain, from what I've seen. And a heavier bullet for its given weight within same diameter is longer, which means more contact with the barrel, and that often means better accuracy, especially in older barrels. You see this with Lee Enfields if you hand load for them and use a flat-based bullet instead of a boat tail. Plus, that longer bullet has a better ballistic coefficient, so even if it starts slower, it keeps its speed better. I also figured out that at a certain speed, according to Applied Ballistics, the load will line up with my acss Raptor's stadia.

I know Varget is the go-to for centerfire rifles, but it's super popular around here, so it can be hard to find. So, I just decided to try something else, cfe 223, to see how it'd work. It's a bit different in burn rate than bc-l2, but it's practically similar to it, and it also has additives to reduce copper fouling from bullet jackets. Even though the name says "223," its burn rate is fine for 308, and it even says so on the bottle.

I am waiting a boyds still for the rifle, I do have a pending Bodily harm settlement, I am highly tempted to rebarrel this Impulse with something that is more high quality and be a project of mine if the settlement allows it. I'd wanna do it myself frankly. It's not hardest thing in world but just need right tools.

I have a shorter range PRS rifle match wanna try Aug 22th um idk how well I'd do with this rifle but just going to attempt it anyway. No longer in muscular chronic pain with Vyvanse and pramipexole together, so i just wanna go shoot without dying from my back locking up like it was from 2019 till early or mid 2026 here.

Bit of a odd .308 load...
