if maruki’s choices existed in your reality, what would you choose?

SpoilerSPOILERS

today i finished persona 5 and i don’t regret refusing maruki’s reality in the slightest. his reality did seem happy but it also felt lacklustre and insincere. just seeing a reality where sumire alters her entire personality to match her sister’s and lives in denial is suffocating, and the same goes for so many of the other characters.
but then i started thinking if maruki existed in my own world and gave me the choice between altering reality so that everyone could have the lives they wanted, or continuing to live in my own reality with all its choices, mistakes, and consequences, what would i choose?
i think i would hesitate at first but eventually give in. i want the people around me, my family, and those who suffer to experience the lives they might never otherwise be able to have. i live in a religious household where i’m the only apostate so seeing the people around me pray to god for an afterlife that might give them some relief from the pain and suffering they experience in this world is genuinely painful. i don’t think they can change much about their circumstances, even with the choices they make, they all wish they had a maruki who could simply alter their reality and let them live in the fake at the cost of never having to face this misery.
as for me, of course i want a better life. but a life where i get to have everything i want sounds blasé and almost robotic to me. that’s probably why even the idea of heaven has never sounded particularly tempting. or maybe i just haven’t suffered enough, huh?
what would you choose if you had the choice?
