Wedding venue hosting public events the same day as our wedding — has anyone dealt with this?

Tough Times

Looking for some advice/reassurance from anyone who has dealt with something similar!

We’re less than two weeks out from our wedding and just found out that there will be a public event happening in the same building as our reception. The event runs through part of our cocktail hour, and there is also a brewery in the building that is hosting a separate outdoor concert that evening.

Our reception itself is on a different floor, so we’ve been told that shouldn’t be impacted. However, our venue rental specifically includes a breakout space on another floor that we had planned to use privately with our wedding party during cocktail hour before entrances. We’re now being told that floor will be open to the public for the other event and they can’t guarantee that they’ll be able to section off a private area for us.

We’re also a little nervous about parking, crowds, noise from the concert, and making sure people attending the public events can’t accidentally wander into the wedding.

Our planner is looking into everything and the venue is trying to figure out a solution, so I’m not trying to panic or immediately make this into a huge issue. I’m mostly curious — has anyone had something like this happen with their venue right before their wedding?

Did the other event actually affect your wedding? Did your venue offer any accommodations or compensation for losing access/private use of part of your rented space? Is there anything specific you wish you had asked or made sure was addressed beforehand?

Trying to figure out what’s reasonable to ask for here without overreacting!
