New here — how do you share a genuine side project without getting filtered as promotion?

Hey everyone,

We're pretty new to Reddit and could use some advice from people who've been around here longer.

We're Omnivotech, a small software engineering startup, and we've recently built TableFlow, a restaurant ordering and management product.

We tried sharing it in r/SideProject because we genuinely wanted feedback from other builders and people with experience in the restaurant space.

The post wasn't an advertisement, didn't include pricing, and we weren't trying to sell anything. We mainly wanted to show what we built and ask what people thought.

It still got removed by Reddit's filters.

So we're a little confused about where we went wrong.

We're completely fine with following the rules — we just don't want to accidentally keep posting something that the community considers promotional.

For people who regularly share projects on Reddit:

What's the right way to post a product you've actually built while still keeping the post within the spirit of the community?

Should we:

  • Keep the company name out of the post?
  • Avoid mentioning that we're looking for feedback?
  • Post screenshots instead of describing the product?
  • Build up more account history before sharing it?
  • Use a specific flair?
  • Or is there something obvious about our approach that we're missing?

We're not looking for a way around the rules. We genuinely want to understand how you normally share your work here without turning it into an advertisement.

Any advice from people who've successfully shared their projects would be really appreciated.

Thanks!
