[M4F] RP: Ringside Debts (Mafia, Dark, Fighter)

New York City doesn’t stop for anyone. Not for people from the wrong side of the river, not for families choking on debt, and sure as hell not for someone like me. I’ve got fists that speak louder than words. A natural in the ring: fast, precise, dangerous. Coaches say I’ve got a gift, but I never had the time or money to chase dreams. When your mom's sick and the hospital bills come with extra zeroes, when dad can't make the rent payments for the house or the shop, you don’t train for a title. You fight to keep the lights on.

The events I fight in aren’t some grimy, back-alley “fight club” deals. They’re organized, big crowds, real venues, sometimes even cameras. But the betting? That's where it gets muddy. Off-the-books, run by the kind of people you don’t say no to. Loan sharks and streetwise fixers who smile with gold teeth and shake hands like they own your life. My dad owes them more than we could ever repay. So I fight. Not just to survive, but to buy time.

The thing is...you don’t know.

You’ve been in my life for years. My best friend, my safe place, the one person who’s never treated me like I’m broken or dangerous. You see the bruises, yeah, and I’ve gotten better at lying about them. “Ran into something, took a spill, clumsy me.” You never push, but I know you’re not fooled. And every time your eyes flick to a busted knuckle or a fresh limp, I feel the weight of what I’m hiding from you.

Lately, it's getting harder to stay ahead of the danger. Loan sharks don’t like patience, and last night someone followed me home. I tell myself that I can’t let this touch you. Can’t let you get dragged into my mess. But when you looked at me today, I felt something shift. And I’m starting to realize I might be fighting for more than just my family.
