I'm so tired of people putting words in my mouth then acting like I'm stupid based on their deliberate misinterpretation of what I said.

Need Reassurance...

I have started abusing energy drinks just to get through this. I know I'm not supposed to do that, but I'm doing my best. I am doing what I can.

I had chest pain that landed me in the emergency room and I doubt this internship was a protective factor.

I'm at a shitty unpaid internship I started under the false idea that I'd be able to develop research skills. Turns out, the lady in charge doesn't even have a degree. I don't want to give too many details out so I'll keep things vague.

The task was: find out the number of people, out of a group, who have a "C" designation. "C" = having both "A" and "B."

After a long time of trying to get my supervisor to tell me what she meant by a "C designation" (it has multiple definitions) it turns out my supervisor was demanding I get people's private health information. I don't know what made her think I'd be willing or able to give her that information.

As a solution, I said "Hey, so unfortunately that's private health information. However, we know the number of people in the group you're looking at who have A, and the number of people who don't. Since the number of people who don't have "A" logically won't qualify for a "C" designation, we can come out with a very imperfect overestimate. I get that it isn't exact, but the info you're asking for is unfortunately inaccessible."

Apparently, this was a mistake to suggest. She "misinterpreted" this as me saying "Z=A" and since then I haven't heard the end of it.

Each time she would bring up "Z designation," she would smirk at me and say "which isn't A, by the way..." for upwards of a month.

Each time I tried to tell her that that ISN'T WHAT I SAID, she just kept rambling and rambling. I've started mentally tuning her out. The other day, I told her for a SECOND TIME that that isn't what a fucking said, and then she just said "oh... I might have misunderstood..."

I'm so tired of this. I have started abusing stimulants just to get through meetings with her. I have a backup lined up in an actual research lab now. I am so tired and emotionally drained.

Don't even get me started on the performative "inclusion" that she's going for. She made every unpaid intern list their "learning styles" in slack and then deliberately assigned task the OPPOSITE of what everyone was comfortable with.

I am SO SO SO TIRED.
