Need help
I’ve been fighting a miss fire in cyl 4 of my 2024 s1000rr for 5 months. It’s been at two dealers.
0x3A1AB2: Ignition coil, cylinder 4, output open circuit
During the first visit, the dealer stated the issue was “unrepeatable” and returned the bike without a diagnosis or repair.
After that, I rode the bike for approximately 250 miles, and the misfire continued. I then scheduled a second visit and rode the bike about 50 miles to the dealership, during which time it finally threw a fault code confirming the misfire.
At that point, the dealer initially attributed the issue to a Stage 1 BT tune, which didn’t align with the symptoms. I had to push them to replace the ignition coil, which they ultimately did.
However, during that repair, they did not inspect or replace the spark plugs, which is a basic diagnostic step for a misfire condition.
After the coil replacement, the misfire was still present.
I replaced the plugs which were a little toasty. Bike has 9800 miles on it.
Gave up on it for about a month since it was getting hot here. Well took it to a second dealer and it’s been there 2 months. This time it’s not an issue with the dealer it’s an issue with BMW.
Wiring harness was tested.
BMW then asked for a leak down and compression test - all ok. NOW they want video of it running poorly.
Here’s the issue. Dealer can’t get it to miss and throw a code driving it on the loop they have. It takes 1-2 pulls up the highway to get it to throw the code. They don’t have a dyno to rip it to get it to miss. Insurance and traffic laws and all.
Im at a loss and can really use some help on who at BMW NA I should call. The fact that the person at bmw requested a leak down and compression test for an open circuit fault code blows my mind. This dealer has done 10 ECU replacements due to failed DME
I think it’s the DME as I read they have resistors on each coil. Failing resistor would cause the open circuit fault seen.
Anyone with bmw that can help? I have an open case and can give that info in DM.
