How did you survive the gap between a location-dependent job and full remote income from a side project?

Business

My situation is a bit specific, so curious if anyone has been here.

I work full time as an office admin, mostly onsite, but I have a SaaS side project that's started generating a small but real amount of monthly revenue. Not quityourjob money yet, but enough that I'm starting to take the math seriously

The honest question is about the gap period. I don't have a fully remote job to fall back on if the side project dips. Admin roles are notoriously hard to do remotely because so much of the value is just being physically present and knowing where the staplers are, that kind of thing. So I'm not in the classic remote worker situation where I can just open a laptop from Chiang Mai.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether people have successfully made the jump from a locationdependent job using a side project as the bridge, and what that actually looked like in practice. Did you set a revenue threshold before leaving? Did you pick a low cost of living base to stretch the runway? Did it work, or did you crawl back after three months?

I have a decent savings cushion and keep my burn rate low. Just trying to get a realistic picture before I make any moves
