How long did it take for you to hear back with a job offer or rejection?

Had my final rounds of interview the last week of July, it’s now been almost 2 weeks since my final one. Originally the recruiter reached out saying they expected to give me an update by the end of last week, but now they reached back out saying they expect an update by Friday. Am I likely being strung around as a ‘backup’ option? Or does it generally take a while to pull together an offer and send it off? Anyone here work for HR or willing to share their experience? This is for a corporate role.
