Is a consumer proposal worth it in my case?
29 years old living in Winnipeg, MB
Over 40k debt with VERY high interest (35-40%)
Little over 90k salary, net about $4900 a month.
Next to no savings (awful spending habits that I know I'll have to fix)
1.2k rent
If I put my head down and saved every penny I could, I'd probably be able to pay 1-1.5k a month towards my loans. But even then, by the time I pay everything off normally I'll have paid tens of thousands in interest.
My credit score is already in the low 600's.
Does a consumer proposal make sense here? I feel like destroying my credit for 5 years is worth saving tens of thousands of dollars that can instead work for me. This is of course assuming I better my spending habits, I'm in the process of doing that.
If I only owed 15k on a credit card I would obviously just buckle down and pay it, but this is 40k extremely high interest we're talking here. I pay probably 1.5k a month just to service the debt. 🤣
I've made some awful awful decisions financially.
