"I'm out!" but no context

NSFWERP - My Bad

Okay, here's a new one for the "things that happen when you RP online" files. You're deep into a scene with someone, everything seems normal, and then out of nowhere they just stop typing and go "I think I'm gonna end it here." Cool. Cool cool cool. No context, no warning, just vibes.

Naturally I ask why. I get the verbal equivalent of a shrug emoji. I press a little, gently, because I'd genuinely like to know if I did something wrong. Eventually they cave and say I'm not giving enough effort. Alright, fair enough, that's actual feedback, I can work with that. So I do what any reasonable person would do: I step it up. Longer replies, more detail, more everything.

Still not enough.

No specifics, no "here's what I mean," nothing. Just a vague sense that I'm somehow still coming up short in a category nobody bothered to define for me. At that point it stopped feeling like feedback and started feeling like someone had already mentally checked out and was just looking for a socially acceptable exit ramp. Which, hey, if you want out, you can just say that. I'm not going to chase you down the street.

And look, I'm not out here pretending I'm some flawless RP savant who's never had an off day. I've written bad replies. I've had scenes that just didn't click. Not every writing style is going to mesh with every other writing style, that's just how it goes, nobody's obligated to vibe with my pacing or my prose forever. I get that. I can take criticism, I promise, I'm not made of glass here.

But if you're going to tell me I'm not putting in effort, at least tell me what effort would look like to you before we're already standing at the door with one foot out. A little communication before "I'm done" would go a long way. Otherwise it just feels like I got blamed for a decision that was already made before I ever got a chance to fix anything.
