Assistance with Possible “Treasure”

Research Assistance

A previous post I made on here helped me so I figured I would try again. I would also like to preface that everything in this speculative since I really have no way of confirming.

Quite some time ago, possibly in the late 1890s or 1900s, an ancestor of mine named Maria Illner in Sonnenberg of what is now the Czech Republic was a musician. She played in a band along with others and traveled the world playing music, going to Africa and Asia.

Well, while they were in Asia, they played for the Maharaja in India. Whether it was a gift or payment, the band members were individually given jewelry.

Maria didn’t get to keep hers for long as her father was quite the drinker and used her share of the jewelry to continue his drinking.

We then jump to a little before the start of WWII. The other band members decided to bury their jewelry so that it wouldn’t get taken from them or lost in the ruins of the war that they believed was coming.

My Mimi told me this story only recently, and how she heard about it when she was a little girl from my Opa Otto and his sister Edith, and how he joked about going back to Sonnenberg and finding the jewelry.

I’ve been wondering since I heard the story if this has a possibility of being true if it sounds realistic, as well as if there would be a way I could possibly find anything that might be able to help confirm this story.

Anything helps!
