Moved far from home for college and now feeling FOMO I can’t shake
Last year, I moved from the US to Ireland for college because school was cheaper and I wanted to escape American politics. But recently I keep finding myself in a deep state of FOMO because I have always been someone who goes to live shows and concerts. I love local and underground bands, especially in hardcore and scremo. That kind of culture just isn’t a thing in Ireland in the same way, which I expected, but I’m feeling like I’m missing out on every show that I’d otherwise go to if I was at home and not at school. On top of that, I’ve always wanted to truly pursue being a musician and creating projects with other people, but since that culture doesn’t exist where I go to school, I feel like I would’ve had a better chance to pursue those goals if I had stayed home too. The older I get and the more the scene evolves, the less of a chance I feel I’ll have to really make a difference for myself. I like being in Ireland, and I want a degree, I hate feeling like I made a mistake and I want to get over this feeling but I just don’t know how. I don’t know if it’s worth trying to pursue my goals in music in Ireland if there’s no audience for it, and I hate feeling doubt in this one area of my life that is overshadowing the good in many other areas of my life. I feel like I’ve left “the place to be” if I want the kind of life I’m aiming for in the future.
