The Warbond is 100% lore accurate (I'm a huge nerd)

DISCUSSION

I don't really use reddit but I've seen a TON of complaining elsewhere online about the new warbond not being "lore accurate" to Warhammer 40k.

I'm a big 40k nerd and have read dozens of books (over 50 at this point) over the last few years. I wanted to straighten a few things out for people who love the setting but don't have the time or desire to devote hundreds of hours to reading Black Library novels and painting minis.

1. "The armor looks plastic!" Imperial flak and carapace armor aren't made of steel plates. They're made of synthetic fibers (plasfibre/carbon-fiber) with an outer layer of ablative ceramics and heat-absorbing thermo-plastics. You're looking at smooth, molded pieces of high-tech space polymer designed to burn away heat and absorb shrapnel; it looks like plastic because it IS plastic. SPACE plastic.

2. "The meltagun is supposed to be a shotgun!" Meltaguns are described as broad heat blasts in Helsreach and as focused cutting lances/beams in Imperial Armour Vol. 1. Both are completely lore accurate depending on the pattern and the author. The melta beam is totally fine. (Honorable mention to Jurgen’s melta - the true hero of the Imperium and destroyer of bulkheads.)

3. "The lasers should be continuous beams!" In Baneblade, lasweapons fire continuous beams. In First and Only, they fire "snaps of light" and "las-bolts." In Cadian Honour, they fire rapid "pulses." Just like meltaguns, there are countless patterns, focus lenses, power settings, and Forge World variations. All of these depictions are canonical.

4. "They're supposed to shoot red!" In First and Only, the Tanith First fire blue shots. In Shadow Point, Navy armsmen fire green shots. in 15 Hours the Cadian 90th they're shooting red. In Dark Adeptus they're firing off in yellow. All of it is canonical and has the same explanation as above; the imperium is huge and there are many, many variations of... well everything.

5. "Lasguns are supposed to fire hundreds of shots per battery!" Standard lasguns? Sure. Hot-shot lasguns/hellguns? No. Hot-shots are HUNGRY boys, so they're usually hooked to a backpack power supply. These are running on the standard battery packs (so no backpack slot needed) but with that kind of power draw... yeah you're gonna need to reload after several shots.

6. "Bolters are Space Marine guns!" Human scale bolt weapons are used constantly in 40k lore by Commissars, Guard Officers, Sisters of Battle, and the Adeptus Arbites. They fire a smaller caliber than Astartes bolters (.60 vs .75), but for a normal mortal human, the recoil is still massive, so yeah it definitely acts just as it should.

Keep in mind that Games Workshop is notoriously protective of their IP. Arrowhead likely had to run every single model, sound effect, and damage profile by GW before going live with this thing, so it's all been approved by the warhammer people.

One last thing to remember - 40k started with Rogue Trader in 1987. Since then there have been HUNDREDS of novels written by many, many different authors. There are also short stories and background stuff from White Dwarf magazine that has been around for like 50 years, plus all the video games, etc. and GW wasn't always so "strict" or "careful" about what was or wasn't "canon" until more recent years. Lots of stuff has been retconned fit modern audiences, changed to push new models, forgotten about or removed only to be brought after 20 years (Leagues of Votann)
