Some thoughts on the future of lore

Discussion

Looking at the lore, it kind of feels like not much has actually happened to the actual dynamic of the Inner Sphere since the Clan Wars, and while there have been many conflicts and events, the actual trend of events has not actually changed much. Looking at the state of things, a factional shake-up feels needed, particularly with House Steiner, who frankly has not done anything interesting across the entirety of lore. The reality is they are definitely the weakest house right now and have been since the clans hit them hard. I feel like continued mismanagement by leadership has left one of two things that can happen. First is that House Steiner collapses under its own weight, resulting in its territory getting split between House Marik and the clans. The second, and what I would consider the more interesting, is that they undergo a fascist revolution that completely removes all current leadership and changes the name of the house. The clearing away of Steiner nepotism results in an economic boom for the new house and, to further strengthen themselves, they offer House Davion a renewal of the Fedcom alliance, this time with the new house as the primary partner. The next issue is how strong House Liao is getting. As part of the agreement with Davion, the two houses conduct an invasion of House Liao. About halfway through the war, once both sides are depleted and would risk themselves to the clans to continue the war, House Marik finally actually does something in lore. Something that has kind of been ignored in lore is how Marik has been the manufacturing base of the Inner Sphere since the clans invaded. This has gone unnoticed by the other houses due to their tendency to keep to themselves, but there has been a quiet decades long build up of forces along the Liao border that went unnoticed because it was so gradual, and now that Liao is weakened from the war, House Marik swoops in and takes 60% of their worlds and most of their manufacturing. This pisses off the new Fedcom, but they are too depleted to do anything about it; however, this move is seen as dishonorable by the clans and earns House Marik their focus, allowing Fedcom much-needed time to rebuild. Liao is completely wiped off the map by a combined 3 house invasion. Meanwhile, House Kurita bides its time in the background, knowing that to strike the new alliance would be to open themselves up to the clans and vice versa.

Two things about this I wanted to elaborate on. First, why a fascist government? Because Steiner is based on Germany, and the conditions are basically identical to what led to it on Earth in the 20th century. Second, why eliminate House Liao? Because there is kind of a geography problem with them in that they are as far from the clan invasion point as possible, and because of them, there's never really a good chance for any of the other houses around to actually face that threat without weakening themselves to Liao. Removing them creates a more direct front line for conflicts to happen along in future lore without immediately kneecapping any gains.

Thoughts or other ideas on how to shake up the current lore?
