best neighborhoods to move to for mid 20s lesbian couple

My partner and I (both 25F) are moving to NYC this coming October and are compiling a list of neighborhoods to check out/tour and I was looking for advice on any hidden gems we might be missing! We are looking for a neighborhood where you can get slightly more space for the price, while still having a fairly simple commute into Midtown for work (I work in fashion and she works in publishing). Our budget is a max of $3500 a month and we're hoping to get a one bed as opposed to a studio for that price (we're moving with two cats lol so we want to have as much space as we can for four beings). Obviously, we would want an LGBT friendly/safe for young women neighborhood, but compared to where we grew up everywhere in NYC feels LGBT friendly lol.

One of the main reasons for our move to NYC is for a more community oriented lifestyle and to be surrounded by such rich cultural diversity. We are open to all boroughs except SI and have been interested in neighborhoods like Astoria and Hamilton Heights so far. Hopefully this was enough information to get a good feel for the vibe we're looking for, all recommendations are appreciated!! :)
