What to do?

There are coyotes in my area, but I have a small dog. Should I still take him for a walk, or just let him in our yard. I know he'll be upset if we don't go for a proper walk, but what can I do? They were spotted literally on the street connected to mine (that street goes straight, but breaks away at two points connecting to mine).
