MES Developer Consultant at Deloitte - Worth It?

USA

Getting recruited for an MES Developer Consultant role at Deloitte and trying to figure out if it's a real career move or just consulting churn.

My situation:

- Have a Industrial Engineering background (On the floor Process Improvement/ Lil bit of DES & Digital twin exp)

-No continuous Coding/developer exp of sorts. Familiar with SQL and Python here and there. Never even touched a MES software design

- Attracted by the title and prestige, but worried about being pigeon-holed into manufacturing systems forever

- Real question: can you actually pivot away from technical work, or are you trapped doing MES implementations for 10 years?

What I actually want to know:

  1. What's day-to-day ACTUALLY like? (The polished description vs. reality)

  2. How brutal is the travel? (They say 50-60%, but is that real?)

  3. If you decide you hate MES in Year 4, how hard is it to pivot internally to strategy role or jump ship?

  4. Is the salary (130k ish + bonus)/trajectory worth the lifestyle?

  5. Anyone here make it to management without burning out?

Bonus question: If you realized consulting wasn't for you, where did you land?

Thanks in advance - Googling this just gives me recruiter BS.
