Loru Debacle - Financial Crime Component
A lot of focus, and quite rightly, on Loru running an RMT auction, but what occurred earlier when reading through some of the comments is the victims of fraud. I say "victims" lightly as anyone willing to spend $thousands on an AT ship needs their head read imo - but that isn't a crime.
Just thinking about it, u/CCP_Swift made the distinction that Loru would be punished less for RMT as he was not running an RMT operation like an actual RMT website... But I think what Loru has done is far more egregious than an RMT website. It should be apparent if you use an RMT website that you're taking a chance. They key difference here is Loru had credibility, I can see why people would have spent money sub bidding on the AT ship in good faith as Loru:
- Was an on-site caster for CCP at Fanfest
- Won a content creator of the year award
That lends credibility that Loru has leveraged.
Knowing the CCP has confiscated the AT ship, Loru has run an auction with effectively no end product and someone out there, no matter how ridiculous it is to "waste" so much money on space pixels, has been the victim of financial crime, pure fraud. We're not talking insignificant sums either, $thousands.
I hope CCP has either made Loru refund people.
