Google finally lost a loyal customer — here's my story 'Rant'

I've been a Google devices user since the original G1 ("the granddaddy of Android"), through the entire Nexus line and into Pixels. Long history, lots of loyalty.

When I had the Pixel 6A, I got hit by the battery issue and was issued a $150 code — but it could only be used toward another Pixel, nothing else. Between getting laid off and life getting in the way, I didn't use it in time and it expired.

On the actual expiration date, I contacted support and asked if they could extend it, or at least offer me the $100 cash option instead of the $150 discount code or any type of store credit — really just looking for any reasonable alternative, since my intent was to stay in the Google ecosystem. They told me a lot of people were raising the same issue and that they'd follow up.

Two days later: an email saying it had been escalated. Two more days later: an email saying there was nothing they could do, sorry for the inconvenience. I pushed back, explaining I'd been a loyal customer for years and didn't think this was fair treatment. The response was essentially "that's just how it is."

That was the moment it clicked — there's no such thing as customer loyalty to Google. We're just a dollar sign.

My whole household was on Pixels. My cousins and I had personally convinced 15+ friends and family members to switch to Pixel over the years. But between that experience and the accumulated issues — 5G locking in unsupported countries while traveling, overheating, battery problems, and generally sluggish software updates — this was the last straw.

So I cut ties completely. My wife switched to Samsung, I switched to Motorola, and my kid got a Motorola too.

Honestly? I don't miss anything. The Motorola exceeded my expectations — more affordable, all the features I actually need, and in some ways better than the Pixel. I'm done, and I'm not looking back.

TLDR: Pixel is not unique, we're just a dollar sign for google, don't expect your loyalty to pay off. there is a lot of better hardware out there
