small team, no dedicated SRE.. curious how you're actually handling reliability of your app

if you're founder or eng leader, genuinely curious how you're managing this:

noticed a pattern across a few teams which I been close to lately: small team, moving fast, nobody has got the SRE / devops title.. then eventually something breaks in a way that probably could've been caught earlier if it was actually someone's job to watch for it? not happens out of sloppiness just there's no-one owning this..

and then the postmortem fix is some version of "let's just add more logging" which never really works because nobody was going to look at the logs anyway, that was kind of the whole problem to begin with ?!

kind of feels like that's the default at this stage: it's either nobody's problem until it's a middle of the night problem, or it quietly becomes one engineer's unofficial second job, and in some cases also there's some monitoring tool running that nobody's totally sure is catching the right stuff.

if any of that sounds familiar would love to hear if you experience something like this.

P.S. AI generated code is not making it any easier in my experience.
