1930s did they have reflectors?

Okay kind of a weird question but I'm struggling to find an answer for this. I'm writing a scene in a screenplay where they're filming outside during the day, so I want to know how the lighting would have been done. Would they have reflectors? Or were they dealing without it? takes place in 1933 LA for reference. Thanks for any help!
