RF 35mm F1.8 Macro okay for portraits? (Not headshots)

Is the RF 35mm macro ok for couples/portraits?

I've been doing couples, engagements and small weddings for many years now. I mostly use a EF 35mm, RF 50mm and a EF 24-70. I recently have been switching over to the RF series, because always using the adapter and EF lenses is hard on me and my hands (carpal tunnel). Also the 24-70 is too big and heavy for me.

I was recently gifted a RF 35mm macro lens. I personally love 35mm in general, it always just gives classy vibes and fits best with my portrait style. Is the 35 macro okay for the kind of work I do? I did a couple test shots of my dogs and I feel like it sounds a bit crunchy and slow. The pictures looked fine, I just am not sure about the performance.
