MTG Content Creation

Discussion

This might be extremely controversial, but flame me! Does anyone else find magic content to be boring and cookie cutter? Gameplay, card reviews, or deck building there doesn’t appear to be much else out there. Realistically what sets content creators apart from each other?

The most production value I have found is Game Knights by the Command Zone, and I can’t think of another channel that does the style of editing, and post game overly dramatized commentary. (I often think to the post about the “Guy that commentates every commander game at the LGS like it’s GK” Reddit post lol)

Card reviews are all fairly cookie cutter “here’s the card, here’s what it does, here’s what it combos with.” Recently I can think of a creator that was called out by another for literally ripping a video 1:1. I’m not defending the plagiarist, just playing devils advocate, how many times can the same prompt be used over and over before there is clear overlap?

Deck building videos is the category I hate the most. “Look how cool and quirky my version of this commander deck is” while it’s an almost copy-and-paste of every other list with 3 pet cards included. I find this frustrating because deckbuilding itself is the part of the game that brings me the most joy. I like tweaking with new cards, testing synergies, and pushing a strategy as far as it’ll go, constantly asking “what does this card actually do for my deck” while brewing or playtesting.
