How to get rid of ingrown hair that’s been there for years?

I have an ingrown hair on my bikini line that’s been there for years. It’s never bothered or irritated me, it’s just a medium-sized bump that’s been sitting there. I’m just now wanting to get rid of it, but I don’t want to do anything that could be harmful. Any tips? I’m trying to avoid having to get it extracted.
Just in case it matters:

- I’ve never gotten a wax, and I shave about once every three months (she does get trimmed in-between shaves)
- It’s not inflamed, swollen, or anything like that, just slightly discolored from hyperpigmentation.
- I shower daily and use a washcloth.
