Improving your gameplay by watching replays: it's best to find replays where one player carried while their whole team was getting rolled

:Advice:Advice

When I was learning Psylocke, I kept looking for replays worth studying, and ran into a big problem: high-rank match history is mostly stomps. Someone goes 26/4, but their team won every fight anyway, so there's nothing to learn because everyone looks great in a game like that. What I actually wanted were games where the enemy team was winning and one player still kept finding value. Those games exist, but nobody indexes them, and digging through tracker profiles by hand takes forever.

And here's the answer: https://rivalsreplays.com

The number of fresh replays grows every day. It goes through recent Competitive matches and picks out games where the featured player did their hero's job well while their five teammates lost the battle. Each result is an in-game replay ID - paste it in Profile -> Favourites -> Match Replays and you can watch it.

Some details:

  • every hero is judged by their own job. Psylocke gets scored on final hits, solo kills and deaths, a healer on keeping people up, a tank on soaking pressure without feeding. Comparing a support's KDA to an assassin's is nonsense, so the site never compares across heroes
  • the featured player's own kills are excluded when judging their teammates, so a good performance can't make the team look worse than it actually was
  • you can filter by minimum rank (up to Celestial), and wins are the rarest finds - winning while your team loses the kill battle is about the strongest carry evidence stats can give you
  • replays older than ~45 days get dropped, since old IDs stop resolving in the client
  • it remembers which IDs you've already copied, so you can work through a hero's list across sessions

There's a "how it works" page that explains the full selection logic, including what it can't tell you: stats can't distinguish "my teammates played badly" from "my teammates got outplayed by a better team". Either way you get to watch someone perform under pressure, but it's carry evidence, not a skill rating.
