401k transfer to IRA

Hi,

I’ve got a Roth IRA through Robinhood (they do contribution matching). I contribute each year with a back door conversion. I have a Voya Traditional 401k leftover from an old job. FXAIX and a Vanguard TDF. I’d have to liquidate, of course.

I’m in my 40s and do a mix of modest paying work with the occasional burst of higher pay. Around $100k-$200k/yr, including about $55k/yr of risk-free (ish) passive income. Long divorced, mortgage with ~$110k remaining, otherwise debt-free and financially stable and in good health.

Each year, I contribute up to my max into an otherwise empty traditional IRA in Robinhood, and then immediately convert to Roth, leaving no balance in the traditional IRA.

I’m considering consolidating my accounts. What I’m trying to figure out is, what do I need to read about to avoid complicated interactions with the way I handle my Roth IRA backdoor conversions if I were to roll my traditional 401k into my Robinhood-hosted traditional IRA?

I’m also interested in any opinions about transferring the 401k balance to an IRA and converting it to Roth. I understand already that I would have to pay taxes on that balance for a Roth conversion.
