was it time to retire?

hey yall, i recently had to retire a piercing and i was just wanting to know if yall also thought it was time to let it go :(
long story short i have 13 piercings, 9 of which are facial piercings. typically when i get sick one of my piercings will get a little irritated, but it’s never something too difficult for me to deal with. well this time it was my left snake bite that i’ve had for about 2 years. it began to swell and developed some internal irritation bumps, after a few days of swelling i switched it to a bigger hoop to accommodate. the jewelry change itself was difficult and hurt like hell. the next morning, i had more irritation on the inside as well as swelling and redness on the outside. i left it in for a few days doing my typical cleaning routine, but inevitably made the decision to take it out (along with its paired piercing) because it was causing lots of discomfort for me. immediately when i took it out it felt better, but is now leaking some fluid. i just wanted to ask if anyone thinks i could’ve saved it or if it was even worth it to try? thank you!
