Lytha usually didn’t mind taking the night watch over the camp. She liked the solitude, the darkness of the woods, and she knew her younger companion Jaythen struggled to stay focused when he had the watch. He was inexperienced and undisciplined, prone to getting distracted. They were both safer this way.

But once again, Jaythen was neglecting to get his rest.
