Active ring even after story viewed

It has happened occasionally with my bfs insta account only that I’ll view his story and then some time later see the active story ring again. When I clicked on the story I see the same one I already viewed. Another time when there was no previous story I just saw a black screen briefly. Does this mean he’s hiding stories from me? Why would it only happen with his account?
