I just released Lofi Cozy Room, a small 3D room that sits on your Windows desktop in a transparent always-on-top window. An avatar reads, works, and sleeps in the room while a puppy wanders around, and you can customize it deeply (1386 avatar options, 715 furniture pieces) with a full lo-fi library and ambient sound mixing. It runs light enough to stay open all day next to your work.

I built it solo over 2 years, and one thing I found interesting is how the "desktop companion" genre has grown lately, games you leave running while you work rather than sit down to play. Titles like Spirit City, Rusty's Retirement, and Cast n Chill have carved out this niche of ambient, low-pressure software that's somewhere between a game and a utility.

I originally priced mine at $14.99 but recently dropped it to $4.99 after realizing the genre skews toward lower price points, which raised an interesting question for me: do people value these "always-on" companion apps differently from traditional games? Curious what this community thinks about the genre and where it's headed.

It's on Steam if you'd like to check it out: [https://store.steampowered.com/app/4621450/Lofi\_Cozy\_Room/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/4621450/Lofi_Cozy_Room/)
